5 best coupes over £250,000

You’ve just won the lottery and you have a few million burning a hole in your pocket. The first thing you’ll want to think about is probably a new car. There are some jackpot winners who vow that their win won’t change them and choose to invest in a new ford fiesta, but we know that the vast majority of you will want something with a little more ‘zing’. Check out these models, all of which you’ll be able to afford when you win the jackpot.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

When BMW bought the Rolls-Royce name in 2003, many traditionalists were concerned for the future of the legendary marque. They didn’t need to be. With its imposing styling, pillow soft ride, silent V12, Connolly leather and Wilson carpets, the model embodies all that is best about Rolls-Royce. The ultimate version of the huge phantom is the £332,000 drop head couple, the perfect car for the Côte d'Azur and no slouch thanks to its 6.8-litre W12. In great Rolls-Royce tradition, the 0-60 time, the engine’s horsepower and the top speed are all a closely guarded secret, but if you really want to know you should probably look elsewhere.

Bugatti Veyron

When VW bought the Bugatti name, which had been largely dormant for 70 years, fans of the brand wondered if the new models could ever live up to the legendary cars of the 1930’s, especially the ultra-rare royal. The critics were well and truly silenced by the £1 million Veyron, with its 8.0-litre, 1,200bhp engine, mammoth presence, and 0-60 mph time of 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 268 miles per hour. Production is coming to an end shortly, but you can still pick up a Veyron super sport for a very cool £1.2 million.

Porsche 918 Spyder

Every few years Porsche takes a step up from its everyday models to offer a halo car that will really set pulses racing. The last model was the 2004 Carrera get and we’ve had to wait the best part of a decade for the new 918, but it’s been worth every second. With a striking silver, muscular body and 600bhp from its 4.5-litre v8, this is a very serious sports car. the 918 can hit 0-60 in 2.6 seconds and it tops out at 214mph. the best bit is that this is a hybrid petrol-electric model, which means it emits zero emissions in town. That’s enough to make any millionaire feel better.

Ferrari LaFerrari

Much like Porsche, Ferrari likes to treat us to something a bit special every few years. The last flagship model from the Italian manufacturer was the 2002 Enzo and its taken 12 years for the follow-up to arrive. The interestingly-named Ferrari LaFerrari features a 789bhp v12 which can power it to 62mph in under 3 seconds. the 2-door coupe uses carbon fibre monocoque construction to maximise strength and reduce weight, which goes some way to explain its list price of over £1

million, although rumour has it that every one of the 499 production models have already been snapped up.

McLaren P1

It was rumoured that McLaren lost £300,000 on every model of the 1994 F1 supercar that left the factory, despite its £1 million list price, which explains why it’s taken the company 20 years to return to independent road car production. Now they’ve done it though, they’re taking things very seriously and the new £1 million P1 is the ultimate expression of the modern British sports car. taking less than 3 seconds to 60mph thanks to its 727bhp petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain, the model tops out at 207mph. featuring the most advanced engine and aerodynamic management system ever developed, you’ll need to act fast if you want to own one of the 375 examples scheduled for production.
