When Everything That Could Go Wrong... Went Spectacularly Wrong

Picture this: the stage is set. The lights are humming, the audience is buzzing—excited for the big draw. And then, everything decides to throw a tantrum.

1. We Went Live Early (Cue Panic Mode)

Ten seconds before go-time, we thought, “Yeah, that countdown was just a polite suggestion, right?” Suddenly, the cameras were on, our faces were glowing in harsh stage lights, and we were scrambling. No script, no briefing, no clue. “Oh hi there, dear audience…?” Oops.

2. Backdrop Takes a Dive

Behind us, that beautiful branded backdrop, the one we gushed over in prep—came crashing down. With a dramatic thud, it peeled off the wall mid-sentence. Very distracting for the rest of the live.

3. The Hermes x Apple Watch Debacle

Before we even got to the draw itself, we realised something: we’d almost forgotten to tell everyone what was live this week. Cue frantic mid-sentence detour to announce the shiny Hermes x Apple Watch. Unfortunately, nerves got the better of us, and we butchered its name so badly you’d think we were introducing a knock-off brand. Somewhere, Apple and Hermès both shuddered in unison.

4. Number Generator Throws a Fit

Finally, we made it to the exciting part—the actual draw. Except the star of the show, our number generator, decided to take a day off. It froze. It flickered. It mocked us with a flashing cursor that might as well have been laughing.

5. Backup Generator? More Like Backup Betrayer

We thought, “No big deal, we’ve got a backup.” Spoiler: the backup generator joined the rebellion. It sputtered, coughed, and died on cue. At that point, we were one step away from pulling numbers out of a hat.

6. Stalling...By Wing-and-a-Prayer

With no working tech, we went full improv: “So... uh... how’s everyone’s Friday night going?” We stretched sentences. We cracked jokes. We gave dramatic pauses worthy of an awards ceremony. All while praying that someone, somewhere, was rebooting something.

The (Un)glamorous Aftermath

After the chaos, we regrouped with a mix of relief and embarrassment. It was chaos in its purest form. The backdrop collapsed, the tech rebelled, we forgot our lines—and yet, somehow, we got there in the end. Call it a live draw or call it survival mode.

But here’s the thing: it was real. It was raw. And it was memorable. No amount of glossy editing could’ve captured that chaos-energy, and our audience got a front-row seat to the magic of live (and very human) mistakes.

What We Learned (Because There’s Always a Lesson)

  • Double-check your timing—maybe don’t hit “Go Live” before you’re ready.

  • Use industrial-strength tape for backdrops.

  • Announce your prizes first—without butchering their names.

  • Test your tech twice (or thrice)—and make sure backups are more than decorative.

  • Lean into the chaos—audiences love authenticity.

So here’s to the most chaotic draw we’ve ever hosted. If we’re not sweating, stalling, and accidentally renaming luxury watches, are we even Fifty20?
